Our Mission

Supporting Growers of sunflowers, flax, safflower, and canola crops with trusted insights and resources through the use of their checkoff dollars to improve the production and markets for these crops.

Checkoffs from sale of oilseed crops.

As South Dakota Growers market their harvested oilseed crops they provide Checkoff funds to support their industry.

The use of the Checkoff dollars are overseen by the Oilseeds Council.  Up to seven oilseed growers may be appointed by the SD Secretary of Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources, DANR.  This council determines how to use the checkoff funds to archive the mission of the Council.

The Checkoff is based on each crop grown in SD and is collected by the first purchaser of the crops.

For sunflowers, canola, & safflowers grown in SD, $.04 per hundred weight sold is collected.  Flax is $.01 per bushel.

One fund the Council has committed to annually is to join the National Sunflower Association.  Through this association the Council is able to join Growers from other states and industry leaders in working together in our common goal of improving our industry.  Supporting farmers as they nurture their oilseed crops from seed to harvest, ensuring healthy crops, good yields, and competitive markets.

SD Oilseed Checkoffs are refundable.
An application for a refund may be requested by the grower from the Council by mail or email to the addresses listed below.
